Job description:
Employees in this capacity upholster vehicles, namely vans, and other seating, and fix trimmings to the interiors of vehicles.

Entry requirements of this job:
There are no formal academic requirements although we prefer minimum GCSEs/S grades.

Tasks required by this job include:

  • follow the work order to prepare, and cut material with shears, knife or scissors;
  • tacks and staples or otherwise secures webbing to furniture frame;
  • secure padding and upper coverings by stitching, stapling, and tacking;
  • pins sections of coverings together, join by sewing and fits upholstery unit to the frame;
  • replaces covering, padding, webbing or springs to repair upholstered seating;

(3). Vehicle Technicians, Mechanics & Electricians

Job description:

Vehicle technicians, mechanics and electricians accept work orders for repair and service of the mechanical parts and electrical/electronic circuitry and components of vans.

Entry requirements of this job:

There are no formal academic entry requirements, although we prefer a minimum of GCSEs/S grades or an equivalent qualification.

Tasks required by this job include:

  • visual checks, test drives or uses test equipment to diagnose any mechanical or electrical faults;
  • repairs/replace defective parts or prepares new parts using appropriate tools;
  • fits tests and adjusts the appropriate parts or systems;
  • carry out routine maintenance checks on oil and air filters, brakes and other vehicle parts/systems;
  • diagnoses faults in electrical systems remove faulty components and fit replacements;

(2). Vehicle Body Builders and Repairers

Job description:

Construct and repair the bodies of road vehicles, and fit interior and exterior parts to vehicles.

Entry requirements of this job:

There are no formal academic entry requirements although we would prefer GCSEs/S grades or an equivalent qualification.

Tasks required by this job include:

  • diagnose job requirements or gather work specifications from job orders or instructions;
  • assembles materials to form parts of the vehicle underframe, framework and body;
  • repairs damage to the vehicle body, undercarriage and engine mounts using hydraulic rams, jacks and jigs;
  • corrects dents in bodywork, fills small depressions or corroded areas in solder, plastic or other filler compound and replaces body panels using hand and/or power tools;
  • installs and repairs interior fittings including seats, and seatbelts in cars/vans;
  • positions secure and repairs external fittings.
